Thin coats of paint.

I don't recall when I first heard it, but when painting barn quilts you should start with very thin coats of paint.  My friend Beth suggests that you should be able to see through your first and second coat and let the third or fourth coat be the fillers.

This process helps prevent bleed under the tape and the paint dries quickly.
